and drawings. I am always finding something interesting in it. 
	I have a new vegetable garden I have been growing on the 
	balcony since March 1993. On this same balcony I used to 
	grow geraniums and roses. I am very proud of my tomato 
	plants. 
	Arina: daughter, Nadja. Also, the bag I took when I left 
	Otes. The bag contains my jewels, medicine, and valuable 
	papers such as family birth certificates, identification papers, 
	medical prescriptions, letters from my little cousin who lives in
 	Croatia, and a photograph I keep secretly. This bag is always 
	ready for another sudden departure, as it was when I left Otes.
	Nedzad: daughter, Nadja.
	Nadja: Neither Nadja nor her parents can say. Anything is a
	game for her in the house: the clock, Lokman's old stethoscope. 
	Her favorite and newest doll is the biggest handmade one. 
	She calls the smallest one Barbie.   

16.	What other possessions would you like to acquire?
	Arina and Nedzad would like to be able to start all over again.  
	We don't know where, but we would like to get back to the 
	normal life we had before: a job, living in our own house, with 
	modern furniture (TV, video, and stereo ) and one more child.

17.	What do you perceive as the signs of success?
	The biggest success for Arina would be to have a new shop 
	where housewives could find everything they need for 
	their houses.

21. 	Describe the kinds of clothing each family member owns.
	Arina left Otes wearing blue jeans, a pullover, a warm coat, 
	and a pair of sports shoes. Nothing more. All the new clothes 
	were given to me by a girlfriend. I also bought a blue silk shirt 
	at the black market and exchanged two sweaters for a red wool 
	outfit.

22.	Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms: Are they available and what 
	family members use them?
	Lokman doesn't smoke, but he does drink brandy. Even 
	though she's sick, Nafja smokes a lot, and doesn't want to quit, 
	saying that it's one of the only pleasures she has in this hard 
	life. Arina doesn't drink alcohol, and won't smoke cigarettes in 
	front of Lokman who doesn't want her to smoke. Nedzad 
	doesn't drink or smoke.
